7 Books to Ignite Growth in Your Faith
Growing in our faith can be an exciting time. But there are also times when that growth seems to stagnate. You can probably relate to me when I say that sometimes, I open my Bible eager to learn more of God's Word and yet others, I barely get around to opening it at all.
If you are looking for ways to ignite that flame of excitement or to dive deeper into a specific area of growth, then keep reading. I've suggested 7 books that have all radically transformed my faith and walk with God. These books offer transformation, healing, understanding and growth.
Forgotten God by Francis Chan
This book dives into the power of the Holy Spirit. Francis Chan calls the Holy Spirit the “forgotten God” in today’s churches.
I’m guilty of sometimes wishing that I could meet Jesus for myself. Ask Him my questions. Feel His healing touch. But Jesus says,”Nevertheless, I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you.” (John 16:7). He tells the disciples that it is for their good that He leaves so that the Helper or the Holy Spirit will come to them.
That put things in perspective for me. If we are to view the Holy Spirit as our Helper, our Advocate, one that will be better than Jesus remaining on this earth, how much more would we seek Him out and seek to find His power in our lives?
The Dream Giver by Bruce Wilkinson
Do you ever get the feeling that you’re not doing all you were meant for? Do you have a dream that you have yet to set out to achieve? The Dream Giver begins with a beautiful, metaphoric parable about a man named Ordinary who sets out to achieve his dream. He must go against the natural inclinations of himself and those around him in order to do what God has called him to.
How hard is that in our lives today? We may feel called to step out into the unknown, but how many of us actually follow through? The book then give practical ways to set out to understand and achieve your own dream. You will find that in following your dream or your calling, there is fulfillment and passion.
If you have a dream that has been pushed aside or left unnoticed, this book will reignite the passion to follow that dream.
Captivating and Wild at Heart by John and Stasi Eldredge
I will never stop recommending these books (Captivating for the women and Wild at Heart for the men). They beautifully untangle the strengths and the differences between men and women.
In Captivating, you will discover the true beauty that you were created with. This book will help you see the wounds that keep you from the truth of your beauty in Christ and the power that rests within you.
In Wild at Heart, you will uncover the very essence of man. This book will show you the immense strength that God created you with and the power of uncovering brokenness.
I encourage you to pick up one of these books. They go great if read together as a couple, but work wonderfully alone.
Battlefield of the Mind by Joyce Meyer
Our minds are powerful. They have the power to steer us and the power to destroy us. In this book, Joyce Meyer takes you on a journey to finding victory in your thoughts. Whether you struggle with depression, anxiety, loneliness, or fear, when you begin to consider your thoughts and take control of your mind, you will find freedom and peace beyond measure.
God wants you to have victory over Satan’s grip. If you want to discover how to focus your mind more fully on God’s truth and to overcome any negativity, this book is for you.
Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis
C.S. Lewis’s works are undeniably some of the best there are. His writing in this book is no different. This book is based on the fictional characters Screwtape and Wormwood, both demons that seek to bring humanity away from God.
This book will open your eyes to the subtle and intricate ways that Satan can work in your life. It will give you an awareness of the areas in your life that may not be fully surrendered to God. The Screwtape Letters is not only a phenomenal piece, but it is a classic in Christian literature and I highly recommend it!
Breaking Free by Beth Moore
Breaking Free will lead you through a beautiful transformation from bondage to freedom in Christ. So many of us as Christians live our lives saved and yet still in bondage. We carry around parts of our pasts or piles of struggles that weigh us down and hold us back from the victory that Christ won for us.
This book will not only open your eyes to the areas of bondage in your life now, but it will show you, step-by-step, how to find victory and overcome these areas of struggle.

Those are great books, Nicole. My son is reading The Screwtape Letters right now and he is enjoying it. Thanks for sharing on Grace and Truth.
Thanks, Aimee!
I have read many of these books, Nicole! 🙂 And of those, a few need to be added back to the list to go over again. Francis Chan’s books always always bless me and Mere Christianity was so good. I have not read Bruce Wilkerson’s book and that is now on my list to peruse and study. Love your list!
Thanks for sharing it with us at the #GraceMoments Link Up.
Blessings,
Dawn
Thanks, Dawn!
Thanks Nicole! There’s a few familiar and a couple on my to-do reading list. Saving your list & happy to share!
Thanks so much, Jill!!
Ahhhh… Breaking Free changed my life! Great recommendations here. Thanks!!
YES!! It was SO powerful, Christa!
Nicole, you have listed some of my favorite authors in Christian publishing! I loved both books by John and Stasi Eldredge, and I have always been a fan of Joyce Meyer ever since I was a young girl. (I still remember my mom listening to her old cassette tapes!) Thanks for compiling such a great list. I really want to read Forgotten God, since enjoyed Crazy Love so much! Blessings to you!
I LOVED Forgotten God! I have yet to read Crazy Love yet though, I will have to add that to my list 🙂
I’ve read several of these. In fact, I would recommend the audio version of the Screwtape Letters if you want to try something different. My 17 year old has almost worn his copy out! Visiting from #graceandtruth today 🙂
Great idea with the audio copy, Angela! Especially for those with a longer commute 🙂
Great list! I have read captivating and wild at heart and loved both of them. My husband loves CS lewis but I haven’t read much of his stuff yet.
My husband also loves CS Lewis! I have read only a few and hope to expand my repertoire soon!
Great list, I have only read the Joyce Meyer and Beth Moore ones and love it very much! I definitely want to try some on your list!!
I hope you do, Carmen!! These books are powerful 🙂
I have a few favorites on your list!
Glad to be here from the Grace and Truth linkup!
Glad you stopped by, Kela!
I have read four of these, and I agree they are great for igniting faith. Thanks for your recent visit, Nicole!
Thanks, Sarah! Great to hear from you 🙂
I’ve read Forgotten God and Screwtape Letters, and I really enjoyed both of them! This is a great list! 🙂
Two of my favorites! 🙂
Nicole, what a resource list you have given ! I have read some of these and can attest to their value and it only makes me want to read the others you suggested. Love this! Thank you!
Thanks, Gretchen!
What a great list. I am not super familiar with most of these, but definitely something to check out! Thank you for sharing.
You’re welcome! Hope you enjoy them! 🙂
Some familiar, some new, and two on my bookshelf waiting to be read already! Thanks for the recommendations : )
Love to hear when others have read or plan to read these! Hope you enjoy the two waiting to be read!
I can relate. There are days when I can’t wait to dig into God’s Word, even days I feel I *need* to. And then there are times when I realize it’s been days (or longer!) since I was last in God’s Word. Right now I’m reading & enjoying The Story of With by Allen Arnold.
I’ll have to check that one out, Laura! Thanks for sharing 🙂
I’ve heard such great things about Francis Chan. I haven’t read his writing yet, but you have reminded me to add him to this year’s reading list. Thank you!
Glad to hear, Sarah! His books are full of wise insight!
I definitely see some that I have read and enjoyed. I love seeing book lists as it often helps me grow my “to read” list 🙂
I love them too, Joanne! Thanks for stopping by 🙂
I love book list posts. Yours is excellent. So much talent in these authors! We all need a faith refresher at times. Thanks of the ideas here.
Thank you, Traci!
Thank you so much for sharing this! I have only read Forgotten God from this list, so I will be adding the rest for sure!
Glad you found it useful, Terryn!
