Bringing home a new baby is a life-changing experience. In those first few weeks, I needed encouragement from Scripture more than ever.
Sleep deprivation, the emotional ups and downs and caring for another little human can be the biggest blessing while stretching you!
Let Scripture saturate your mind and heart in this time – it’s a powerful way to find strength and joy. These bible verses for your new baby will uplift you and encourage you to pray over your baby.
I love seeing God’s heart towards our children. And I love praying Scripture over them.
So let’s take a look at the bible verses and then we will talk about how to pray over your new baby and ways to use these verses (in your nursery and in the early-morning hours).
Bible Verses for New Babies
See that you don’t despise one of these little ones, for I tell you that in heaven their angels always see the face of my Father who is in heaven.
Angels in heaven are watching over our babies.
For you formed my inmost being. You knit me together in my mother’s womb. I will give thanks to you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Your works are wonderful. My soul knows that very well.
God created every single thing about your little baby and His work is wonderful!
Behold, children are a heritage of the Lord. The fruit of the womb is his reward.
Our babies are as valuable as an inheritance from God Almighty.
1 Samuel 1:27
I prayed for this child, and the Lord has given me my petition which I asked of him.
This baby is an answer to prayer.
For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared before that we would walk in them.
Our baby is a masterpiece and God has good works prepared for them.
Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom can be no variation, nor turning shadow.
This little gift is from God.
But Jesus said, “Allow the little children, and don’t forbid them to come to me; for the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to ones like these.”
Children have access to the Kingdom of Heaven and to Jesus.

How to Pray Over Your New Baby
Prayer is powerful. God moves when we pray, not only in what we pray for but in our own hearts. He hears us when we pray and He wants to hear from us.
Praying over your new baby is a powerful way to pour the power of God’s Word over your new baby. It is also a powerful way to surrender your little one into the loving arms of the Almighty God.
But if you’re like me, it can be hard to know what to pray and how to pray over your little precious one.
Start by praying the Scriptures above. You can take any Scripture and just read it or pray it over your new baby.
If you want specific prayers to pray over your children and family, you can download these free printable prayers for your family.
Your prayers don’t have to be eloquent or long, just pray what is on your heart. I love keeping a prayer journal, or even a list of things I want to pray over my baby so that I can be sure to remain fervent in prayer – despite the sleep deprivation and mom-brain.
Here are some of my favorite things to pray over my new baby:
- Pray for God’s protection over your baby
- Pray for God to create a heart after Him within your baby
- Pray for a sound mind for your baby
- Pray for your parenting, your motherhood and husband’s fatherhood
- Pray against spiritual warfare in your child’s life
- Pray for physical health and strength for your baby as they grow
Ways to Use Bible Verses for a New Baby
You can use these Scriptures in so many ways! Whether you’re looking to use them for your new baby or looking for gift ideas for new moms, here are some ideas:
There are so many cute printable Scripture wall decorations out there. You can walk through a store like Hobby Lobby or At Home and see so many cute things to hang around the nursery. You can also find tons of these on Etsy.
These are great gifts for a baby shower and also really fun ways to decorate your nursery as you prepare for your own new baby!
I printed out so many Scripture cards and even ended up writing down some verses in those early weeks with a new baby. I wanted to have reminders all around the house – especially in areas like where you nurse your baby or rock your baby.
You can give mugs, blankets, stuffed animals and so many more cute ideas that have Scripture engraved or printed on them.
As a new mom, I loved mugs with Scripture because let’s be real – coffee is a big part of functioning through the day on just a few hours of sleep!
I love the idea of blankets or animals with Scripture that my baby can keep close and that I can reflect on every time I see them.
We pick up our phones so many times throughout the day, especially if you’re spending hours nursing a little baby! So using Scripture as your background or lock screen is a great way to focus your mind on the Lord and remind yourself to pray Scripture over your new baby!
Power of God’s Word for Our Children
Don’t underestimate the power of God’s Word in the lives of our children. As we pray Bible verses over our new babies and teach them the Scriptures, God is present and active and at work.
Here are some bible verses that show the power of God’s word in the lives of our children and in our lives as parents:
And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
God’s word is a powerful offensive weapon against Satan’s schemes.
Your word is a lamp to my feet, and a light for my path.
God’s Word lights our path and will light the path of our children as they grow.
For the word of God is living and active, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and is able to discern the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
God’s Word is our guide as parents and we can teach our children to use it as their guide as well.
So faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
Our children need to hear God’s Word in order to believe in Christ.
