Do You Know Where God is Calling You in 2021?

Do you know where God is calling you to step out and follow Him this year? Maybe it’s a leap of faith, maybe it’s stepping back and resting in Him.

Last year was quite a year. Not even considering the pandemic, I had a baby and became a mama! Everything in my life changed in so many ways. And as we look to the changing society around us, I can’t help but feel this is a big year.

So today, let’s take a look at how we can discern God’s voice and follow His call for us this year!

Do You Know Where God is Calling You in 2021?

It can be so hard to hear God’s voice. There are so many things vying for my attention. There are so many things calling my name. And God, being the still, soft whisper, can easily get drowned out in the chaos.

Can you relate?

Even when we are forced to slow down, our minds want to stay busy and active. It’s hard to truly still our hearts and hear where God is calling us.

But even when we do, it can be harder still to follow where God is calling us. Because often God is calling us to surrender, to take risks and to leap into the unknown.

Preparing Our Hearts

How many of you face spiritual attacks and lies against who you are and who God has called you to be?

Not one of us escapes the eyes of the enemy. And yet, God calls us to follow Him, to surrender to Him. He tells us that He has good plans for us. And He asks us to walk by faith.

Preparing your heart to follow where God is calling you will look different for each and every person. Because we have different strengths, different tendencies and different fears.

So today, take a few moments to be still before God. Still your heart, surrender your fears and anxiety. And ask the Holy Spirit to reveal to you the schemes of Satan that keep you from hearing God’s voice clearly.

As we pray to remove the veil that Satan likes to keep over his schemes, we can stand against Satan and overcome spiritual warfare. We can open our hearts and our ears to the Lord and be prepared to hear His voice and follow His call for us.

Discerning God’s Voice

One of the biggest questions I’ve struggled with over and over in the face of a decision is what is God’s voice and what is not. Where is the world’s voice or my own drowning out where God is calling me? And especially, where is the enemy’s voice beckoning me away from God’s plan for me?

I’ve gained so many moments of clarity and I’d love to be able to give you a three-step plan to determine God’s voice above the others, but ultimately, it is the Holy Spirit at work inside you to help you to discern God’s voice.

A few years ago I created a 3-week bible study, Find Your Calling. This study is geared toward exactly what this post is about. Discerning God’s voice and following His call for you.

In week two, you will learn to become more familiar with the Holy Spirit’s voice, establish conviction vs condemnation and understand how to discern God’s voice. This entire study is meant to be led by the Holy Spirit and God.

The biggest step towards discerning God’s voice is to grow more intimate with Him. As you spend time in His word, in His presence and in prayer, you will begin to hear His voice more clearly.

The Courage to Follow God

When we sense God calling us into the unknown or away from our comfort zone, it is HARD to follow Him. If you’re anything like me, you’re going to want to find a way to stay right where you are. Where it’s safe.

But there is so much blessing as we follow God. When we walk in obedience to Him, even when it’s hard or uncomfortable, He blesses us in big ways.

If God is calling you to something, He is going to be with you every step of the way. If you are feeling your heart tugged in a certain direction, maybe one that is scary and unknown, cling to His promises and take that step! Start small and one foot in front of the other, follow the Lord.

Be sure to check out the Find Your Calling Study to see if it will help you on the journey to discerning God’s voice and following His call for you this year!
